BRIT Awards Stage

This was a 3rd year brief on the USW TV and Film Set Design course where we were tasked to design a stage for the Brits. My design was based off the geometric forms of splintered wood and stone slabs.

The set was required to accommodate 3 main spaces: Performance, Presenting and Interviewing. The layout of these spaces changed throughout the design process creating a more intimate interview space that is still open to audience view and the varying levels offered dynamic performance opportunities. The surround is layered with reflective copper leaves to create atmosphere with the crowd being positioned under bark light paneling.

The design initially came from compiling a collection of branches from Barry Island beach helping to develop the design into a functioning Brit Award stage. Originally the concept began as a 360 degree stage with a main entry way in the corner of the studio, however, for camera and design the stage grew into a one sided stage where nominees can approach from any seated position. The stage is designed for a dynamic journey to the awards podium and a clear view of the award title and presenter.
